After your initial online or telephone inquiry, Julie will contact you to arrange a mutually agreeable time to meet with you. The meeting provides an opportunity to engage in a conversation to discern your comfort level, ask a few relevant questions, and book an appointment.
Our first one-hour session is an introduction, which is the beginning of forming a trusting relationship. It will help us decide if we be able to work well together. I want to get to know you and the problem. Getting to know each other includes providing time for you to ask me any questions about our therapy sessions. It is also a time for me to learn about your family and the relevant people in your life. We explore the problem and work out ways to uncover its control over your life. At the end of our first session, I will check in with you to see how you felt during the session, if you have any questions, and develop a plan for our next session.
Hopefully, after your first session, you are feeling a sense of confidence in the direction we will work together. You may even feel a sense of hope and optimism that the problem has been uncovered, and you will be able to gain control over the problem or challenge that prompted you to seek therapy.
During our second session, we will dig deeper into the problem or challenge that you are facing. Together we look at the problem’s impact on your life’s behavioural, cognitive, emotional, and relational areas. I continue to prepare and develop an assessment and treatment plan for what may be happening to you.
In all our sessions, all therapeutic approaches are individualised to meet your needs; these may change as we progress in our therapy sessions. Within each session, I will check in with you about the problem and changes you are experiencing.
Sometimes you need someone to listen.
Julie offers brief therapeutic support for parents and families using online or phone counselling. Julie is available for a 15-minute consultation to gain an understanding of the problem before a 50-minute intake with parent(s) before Julie meets the children and young people.
