While stress and worried feelings are common reactions to a stressful situation, they usually pass once the stressful situation or ‘stressor’ is removed. So, what is the difference between worry and anxiety? Everyone feels anxious from time to time. However, when anxious feelings persist, happen without any particular reason or make it difficult to go about your daily activities and responsibilities, it may be a sign of an anxiety condition. Anxiety can interfere with how we go about our everyday lives and make it hard to cope with ‘normal challenges’. At this stage, it may be beneficial to seek professional anxiety counselling.

It is usual for children to experience fears at times. What children fear changes as they grow; some fears are common and expected at typical developmental stages. Moreover, most children cope with normal fears with support and guidance from their parents or caregivers. As children get older, they overcome their fears of a younger age.
However, sometimes children have a more difficult time and need more help with their fears. If fears are extreme and keep a child from completing normal age-appropriate activities and tasks, it could indicate an anxiety disorder.
